VITAMIN D SOFTGELS
Vitamin D supplements come in pills, softgels, capsules, tablets, and liquid forms; but how do you decide which form is best for you? Honestly, there is no absolute answer to that question. It’s really a matter of your personal preferences, health status, and budget.
While Vitamin D pills and tablets are the most common type of supplement and also the least expensive, when it comes to Vitamin D, they are not the most convenient because vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, so is ideally presented in an oil (fat) base for best absorption. Like tablets, capsules are intended to hold dry or powdered ingredients inside of them. And, like tablets, capsules do not provide vitamin D in its most desirable oil-base form, so have the same drawbacks as tablets as far as absorption. Indeed, both capsules and tablets need to be taken with a fat-containing meal or snack for the body to be able to absorb and use them.
When it comes to vitamin D, soft gels are a far superior choice to tablet and capsule pills because the vitamin D is presented in a natural oil-base, so can easily be absorbed, and assimilated by the body. It’s also important to note that the soft gel material is typically rich with antioxidants, so naturally protects the contents against oxidation, as well as prolongs shelf life. In addition to absorption, soft gels also have the considerable advantage of not containing any of the excipients commonly found in tablets such as binding agents, coatings, glazes, and artificial preservatives, colors, and flavors. Softgels also do not contain the fillers that are usually present in traditional capsules. Oh, and let's not forget that soft gels are more flexible than tablets and capsules, so are easier to swallow, and have little to no taste. This is an important advantage especially when you need to take multiple doses.
Benefits Of Vitamin D Softgels
- Easy to Swallow Vitamin D Pills
- Offers Enhanced Absorption
- No Excipients / Reduced Risk of Allergic Reactions
Vitamin D Softgel Absorption
The soft gel material that encases the vitamin D itself is easily digested, after which the active ingredient; in this case, vitamin D, is released and quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. As such, vitamin d soft gels offer superior bioavailability over other pills like tablets and capsules, which means you’re getting more of the active ingredient per dose, and also, more health benefits.
Vitamin D Softgel: No Excipients
Vitamin D soft gels pills do not call for the use of excipients and are usually presented in a natural oil base of flax oil, rice bran, or olive oil which enhances absorption.
Vitamin D Softgel Potency & Forms
Potency
Vitamin D soft gels pills come in typical vitamin D potencies of 400 and 1,000 IU, as well as more recently, in extra strength 2,500 IU.
Forms
Vitamin D soft gels pills are available as the preferred D3 cholecalciferol form, either from lanolin-source or from vegan algae-source. Vitamin D supplements are also available in D2 form, but this is the synthetic form, which does not offer the same potency or bioavailability as D3.
Getting The Most Out Of Your Vitamin D Softgels
When you’re deciding what vitamin D supplement to purchase between pills such as soft gels, capsules, and tablets, it’s important to also pay special attention to the dosages, as there are often important differences as far as how many are required per dose.
