Endocannabinoid System (ECS):
The endocannabinoid system is the body's master regulator homeostasis (balance). When there is a dysfunction in the system, or there is an "endocannabinoid deficiency," the body becomes unbalanced and contribute to illness and degenerative disease.

Pure Terpenes, Not Essential Oils
In order to adhere to the desires of cannabis purists, we've chosen to use pure terpenes that are found in fresh cannabis. [Some history: version 1.2 of this formula used essential oils of various plants, but because essential oils contain many other terpenes (many not found in cannabis) feedback from our user panel felt it deviated too far from what a true terpene experience for cannabis users should be.] Our base of hemp seed oil also ensures only those compounds you'd expect to find in cannabis are used in this formulation.

Terpenes: A Natural & Safe Complement to Cannabis Therapy
Cannanda is your source for highly prized terpenes. These are the natural compounds that give plants and flowers their distinctive odours and aroma. In essence, these are the "active ingredients" in essential oils.

For the cannabis plant, there are two major categories of plant compounds that determine the characteristics of the "strain." First are the cannabinoids. Well known compounds in this class include THC and CBD (among many others). Depending on the strain of cannabis, the proportions of these cannabinoids range, for example, from high THC/low CBD strains commonly sought by recreational users, to the low THC/high CBD strains prized by medicinal users.

The second major class of compounds-and the scientific basis behind Cannanda-are the terpenes. Here again, there are many distinct compounds in this class, such as limonene, alpha-pinene, beta-caryophyllene, linalool, and beta-myrcene. Their relative amounts are a key defining difference between strains. For example, indica strains are typically higher in beta-myrcene, while lower amounts are usually found in sativas. Also, the ratio of these terpenes (called the "terpene profile") is what helps deliver a specific effect in the user. So ultimately, changing the terpene ratio in your cannabis changes its effect.

Smell That? Terpenes are Everywhere!
Terpenes are not exclusive to cannabis, and the terpene profile is also a defining feature of any plant's essential oil, which is responsible for its aroma. Individual terpenes are also not exclusive to any one plant's essential oil. For example, limonene is found in all citrus fruits, certain types of herbs and even nutmeg. Pinene is found abundantly in trees like pine and fir, and in herbs like rosemary. Essential oils are used widely as natural flavour additives for food, as fragrances in perfumery, and aromatherapy.

The Entourage Effect: Potentizing Your Cannabis
Terpenes themselves are known to provide health benefits and therapeutic effects on their own, but can also the influence the effects and properties of other compounds, especially the cannabinoids. This phenomenon, where plant compounds act synergistically with each other, is known as the "entourage effect."

HEMP SEEDS

A nutritious and delicious way to easily add more healthy fat and complete protein to your diet…

HEMP SEEDS come from the plant Cannabis sativa and are used as a rich dietary nutrient source. They can be eaten alone or on salads or other foods to help improve your protein and essential fatty acid intake.

Do you mean “weed” seeds?
The plant Cannabis sativa has a number of different species.

In past, the most well known species were those that were high in tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), whose buds were smoked or eaten as a psychoactive drug.

Sustainability
Hemp can be grown without the use of herbacides, and with very little pesticide, allowing more to be produced with less damage to the environment. At the same time, most of the plant can be used for a variety of different functions. Outer fibres from the plant material are used to produce cords and clothing, while inner fibres are used as mulch, and animal litter. The seeds can be used as a food source (as further explained in this article), and oil from the pressed seeds can be used in oil-based paints, and in plastics. Hemp oil can also be used as a moisturizer in creams and as oil in cooking. All of these uses allow for very little wastage of the harvested plant.

Preparation
The seeds of hemp can be eaten raw, ground into a meal, sprouted, prepared as tea, used for flour in baking or made into hemp milk. Hemp is also used to make protein powder. Unshelled seeds can be more easily digested, although the seed husks can act as an excellent source of fibre in the digestive tract.

Nutrition Content
The nutritional content of hemp seeds is quite rich. Around 44% of the weight of hempseed is healthy edible oils, the vast majority of which are essential fatty acids (EFAs). One tablespoon of hemp oil per day can provide the full daily requirement of EFAs for an average adult. They are a relatively rich source of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids by weight. The seeds can also be an excellent source of protein and contain all 9 essential amino acids, making hemp seeds a complete source of protein as well.

North Americans have a high dietary deficiency in EFAs due to out high intake of animal fats versus plant fats, caused by our high consumption of processed foods and meats versus natural organic foods. Essential fatty acids have been used to treat eczema, psoriasis, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, menopause and PMS. They also improve hair and skin, prevent blood clots, improve memory and regulate hormone levels as well as support an over all healthy immune system.

How can I get more hemp seed?
There are a number of different hemp seed products available on the market. The seeds themselves can be purchased, often shelled so that only the easy to digest nut or “heart” remains. Unshelled varieties provide an excellent source of fibre. Eating 3 – 5 tablespoons of hemp seeds per day can help to improve your nutritional status, and provide an excellent source of EFAs as well as some protein.

Important Information
How the seeds are processed is extremely important to their nutritional content. Any exposure to temperatures above 104 degrees Fahrenheit can cause oxidation of the oils. To help preserve the nutritional value, storing the seeds you will use within a few days in the fridge, and those you will use later can be stored in the freezer.
