CHAMOMILE TINCTURE - CALMS NERVOUS AND DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

Mode Of Action

Chamomile is both calming and anti-inflammatory, a combination that makes it efficient to relieve digestive and nervous troubles. Its calming action on the nervous system reduces stress, agitation, irritability and nervous tension. It is particularly interesting for people who are hyperactive, hypersensitive and subject to digestive troubles caused by nervous tension. Chamomile helps stabilize the mood and its anxiety-reducing properties are helpful for occasional or general anxiety.

It contains apigenin, a flavonoid responsible for its sedative action that contributes to alleviate mild sleep disorders. Chamomile is also used in mild cases of ADHD and is a nerve protector. Its flavonoids are also responsible for its anti-inflammatory action. Chamomile reduces inflammation of all mucus membranes.

The combination of its anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and hormonal effects help relieve premenstrual symptoms such as irritability and emotional instability. Also, it reduces menstrual pain such as cramps and back ache, it regulates the cycles, especially when there is amenorrhea.

In the digestive system, chamomile’s bitter principles stimulate appetite and digestive secretions. It reduces gas, bloating, intestinal cramps and is especially useful for digestive troubles of nervous origin. It has anti-ulcer properties and inhibits certain bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori. Its anti-inflammatory properties act on the entire digestive tract. It soothes irritation of the stomach and intestines and relieves symptoms of inflammation in the intestines and of irritable bowel syndrome.

Chamomile is also used as a gargle for inflammation of the mouth and gums. It is healing and antiseptic, it reduces inflammation and pain, especially in fungal infections.

Chamomile relieves tension in the muscles, tendons and ligaments. It acts by modulating the perception of pain and by reducing inflammation. It is used to relieve headaches, migraines, nerve pain and toothaches. It is an antihistamine and antioxidant and reduces skin inflammation (acne, dermatitis).

The main constituents of chamomile are flavonoids (apigenin, quercetin, rutin), volatile oils, (bisabolol, chamazulene, sesquiterpenes), polyphenols, coumarins, amino acids, anthemic acid, choline, polysaccharides, fatty acids and tannins.

In Ancient Greece, it was recommended to treat headaches, colic and nervous troubles of the stomach. In the Middle Ages, chamomile flowers were strewn about dank castle hallways in order to keep sickness at bay. German immigrants brought the culture and use of chamomile with them to the United States. In the 19th Century, it became an important herb recommended by the American eclectic doctors. Chamomile is now part of the official pharmacopeia in 26 countries.
