BORAGE OIL 1000MG FROM NOW

Borage Oil is a nutritional oil containing over 80% Polyunsaturated Fats. Linoleic Acid and Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) are enhanced essential fatty acids. Although the body can manufacture GLA from dietary linoleic acid, it can be more efficiently utilized for body functions when supplied directly by dietary sources. BorageOil is a more concentrated source of GLA than Evening Primrose Oil (EPO). [SOFTGELS]

Product is Good
I have used Now Borage Oil for years to help reduce monthly breast pain (painful periods). It works well, but I didn't realize that Now Solutions is an American company. I'll still use Borage Oil but buy from other companies that are Canadian owned/made.

Best Combined with Cod Liver Oil!
I had been using it for some time and have been very happy with the dosage and the fact that the pills don't contain fillers and the capsule is made of only gelatin, water and glycerine! I wasn't sure if it was doing much but for my second bottle, I started taking it with Cod liver oil and found it very effective for improving bone density and healing dry skin.

Using for Dry Eyes
My husband has Sjorgen's Syndrome which affects the tear and saliva glands so he has dry eye syndrome. I have dry eyes as a result of PRK laser corrective surgery. We're trying this to see if it helps somewhat for lubrication of the eyes. The capsules are large but my husband is managing to get them down. He says he "torpedoes" them lengthways one at a time so they don't get stuck in his throat. We're on our second bottle now hoping to see some results soon.

Borage Oil is Great for Skin!

Borage oil (omega 6) used daily in combination with linseed oil (omega 3) form a most active supplement for dry skin, its roughness and its curative effect to counter problems related to seborrheic dermatitis. A precaution to take (caution) for those who use the coumadin Iliquéfaction of the blood) because it intervenes in the blood control (INR).

effets positifs

After using it for 3 weeks, I already notice marked and positive effects on my skin in general. Having a major problem of several years with Seborrheic Dermatitis, I note a significant improvement on my dryness of skin (dandruff) as well as a lessening of the effects of itching associated with this problem. In my case with an extremely slow liver, I have to combine the psyllium seeds to help the daily intestinal transit.

What is Borage Oil?

Borage oil contains gamma-linolenic acid, an omega 6 essential fatty acid. "Essential" means that the body does not produce the fatty acids on its own and therefore they must be taken in through the diet. Your body uses GLA to produce hormone-like substances (eicosanoids) that support cardiovascular health. GLA also helps maintain cholesterol levels because healthy fats build HDL cholesterol. HDL cholesterol is responsible for moving fat, from storage or plaques, into the liver where processing and excretion of fat occurs. By decreasing fatty build-up on arteries it helps to regulate blood pressure. GLA reduces the production of an inflammatory compound called arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid causes pain and inflammation in conditions such as arthritis.

GLA helps to make the sheath (myelin) that surrounds the nerves that conduct messages from the brain to the muscles and organs of your body, performing a similar function to the insulation sheathing of electrical wires. If this protective sheath degenerates (as in MS), a "shorting out" of the message that the nerve is carrying occurs. Since healthy fats play a large role in hormone formation, borage oil can thus help optimize hormone levels in both men and women. GLA supplements are used to treat atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, arthritis, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, PMS, menopausal discomforts, multiple sclerosis and liver cirrhosis.

Borage seed oil contains a significantly higher concentration of GLA than other GLA supplements. Ensure your borage supplement is not processed with heat because it damages the acids and creates free radicals. Some of the damaged fats turn into trans-fatty acids, which are well known for their promotion of cardiovascular disease. Refrigerate all liquid borage supplements and keep capsules away from heat because they can become rancid.

Essential Fats

Without the healthy fats cells become porous and chemical or nutrient imbalances can occur. The essential fats also produce chemical messengers, such as hormones, in the body thus, omega 3-6-9 oils help to optimize hormone levels in both men and women. Essential fatty acids have been used to treat eczema, psoriasis, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, menopause and PMS. They also improve hair and skin, prevent blood clots, improve memory and regulate hormone levels.

There are three categories of EFAs, omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9. Vegetable-based combination oils usually contain alpha-linolenic acid, ALA, for omega 3, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), for omega 6 and oleic acid, for omega-9. The sources of the oils are several of the following: flaxseed, borage, black currant, hemp, pumpkin seed, primrose, sunflower or safflower. Some combination oils include fish oils derived from fish such as herring, cod, mackerel, tuna or salmon. These oils give the added benefit of containing docosahexanoic acid, DHA, and eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA, two other types of omega 3 fatty acids.

Why are they Essential?

Omega-3s (and omega-6s) are termed essential fatty acids (EFAs) because they are critical for good health. However, the body cannot make them on its own. For this reason, omega-3s must be obtained from food, thus making outside sources of these fats "essential."

Although the body needs both omega-3s and omega-6s to thrive, most people consume far more 6s than 3s. Hardly a day goes by, however, without reports of another health benefit associated with omega-3s. For this reason, many experts recommend consuming a better balance these two EFAs.
